Lancaster University Ghana’s Careers Unit organises a career fair annually to create an avenue for students to engage with companies from diverse industries. The fair is open to students at all levels, and it’s a great opportunity for our students to explore careers, check out specific companies, get career advice from industry players, expand their professional network, and yes, land internships and job opportunities.

On 1st March 2023, Lancaster University Ghana hosted its annual career fair. The career fair, which was themed “Nurturing the Student into a Corporate Icon,” had over 13 companies and hundreds of students passing through the doors of the multi-purpose hall where the main event was held.

“Students getting the opportunity to meet, learn from, and network with companies through the career fair will definitely ensure future success within the graduate job market,” said Prince Afoani Baah, the Careers and Internship Placement Coordinator. “Having this fair on campus allows us to maximise the opportunities available to students, and for employers, it allows greater access to the strong and talented pool of Lancaster University Ghana students.”

Morning Session (breakfast meeting with corporations)

To commence the “big day”, a corporate breakfast meeting was held to give room for all companies present to have a chat with management. Speaking at the session, Dr. Emmanual Arthur expressed his utmost gratitude to all companies for honouring the university’s invitation and making it to the career fair. “On behalf of the CEO and management of the school, I would like to thank the participating companies for giving our students meaningful opportunities that will be helpful for their future careers.”

Late Morning Session (Corporate Presentations and Discussions)

To make sure students made the most of the career fair, there were a series of mini-seminars with participating companies. This created room for students to get an insight into the operations and work flows of these companies as well as learn from the experiences of the speakers.

Afternoon Session (Career Fair)

The career fair, being the highlight event of the day, served as an excellent networking event and opportunity for students to discuss current and upcoming opportunities within participating organizations. Participating organisations included financial services firms, healthcare organizations, insurance companies, human resource firms, etc.

“This year’s career fair gave students an opportunity to interact with a wider range of employers from diverse sectors. I have heard from Lancaster University Ghana students who are already interviewing with some career fair employers and others who have received job offers,” said Dr. Emmanuel Arthur, Provost of Lancaster University Ghana.

“We have heard many positive comments from students about this year’s fair,” said Prince Afoani Baah, Careers and Internship Placement Coordinator. “We would like to thank the participating companies for giving our students the opportunity to engage with them and also the insight into what companies are looking for in various positions in terms of qualities and skill sets.”
