Commencement ceremony held to welcome the newest cohort of students to our Foundation and English Proficiency Programme

On Friday, 20th January 2023, a commencement ceremony was held to formally welcome all newly admitted students to the Lancaster University Ghana community. The new students comprise the second cohort of our Foundation Programme and students who have been admitted into our English Proficiency Programme.

The ceremony which took place at the multi-purpose hall of Lancaster University Ghana’s campus began with a welcome address by the Provost, Dr. Emmanuel Arthur. “Today, we are not only gathered here to dine but to witness a transformative event where we officially welcome you as members of this prestigious university. You have studied hard to be here, and I hope you will actively partake in all intellectual and social events to make your stay here an enjoyable and productive one” he stated.

The heads of the various faculties on campus: Business, Computer Science, Law and Politics, Philosophy and Religion gave an overview of their departments and assured students of the support every department offers to ensure that students make the most of their time here at Lancaster University Ghana.

The Vice President of the Students Representative Council, Killian Achung Ogbang in his speech to all new students gathered stated that “We are pleased to have you as students of Lancaster University Ghana. We as the SRC have the responsibility of furthering students’ interest, from bridging the gap between staff and students, to ensuring that you enjoy a wholesome student experience. While we do this to satisfy your needs as students, we urge you to be good ambassadors of the Lancaster Ghana Student Council and Lancaster University Ghana. Do not just go through the University, but let the University go through you”.

Speaking on students’ expectation during their time here on campus, Nana Konobea Asare, a freshman foundation student mentioned that “Given that Lancaster Ghana has an “open door” policy, we anticipate engaging thoroughly with both students and staff. We also expect an even better and thrilling experience with the SRC, one that will enhance our academic careers”.

In his closing remarks, the Provost, Dr. Emmanuel Arthur stated that “this is the start of a very great journey for all of you, and I wish you every success in your time with us and beyond”.

The ceremony featured a musical performance by some members of Lancaster University Ghana’s Music Club and was followed by a celebratory dinner.
