Stephanie Asare-Kodua, a final year student studying Economics and International Relations presented her research on the topic “Let The Woman Speak! The Ghanaian Woman’s View on Gender Equality and Socio-Economic Development” which won her the Best Social Science award at this year’s conference.
The conference, which took place online from 14 – 16th March 2023 had eleven students from Lancaster University Ghana and provided a valuable opportunity for our students to present their research to an international audience by producing an online poster and/or giving a research talk.
Speaking about this year’s conference, Academic Lead for the conference, Dr Christopher Macleod, said: “The Conference provides a really excellent opportunity for students to interact with their peers from around the world, and to gain experience in presenting to an international audience”.
In an interview with Stephanie about the motivation for her research, she stated: “The role of the African Woman has experienced a shift due the spread of technology, social media and freedom of speech. I wanted to peer into the Ghanaian woman’s view, her thoughts on gender equality and the challenges faced while working and taking care of the home as we are living in a world where we are somewhat centered on our traditional values but also try to incorporate a modern lifestyle. I believe my research will help identify some measures the society could take moving forward”.
