Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) and Transnational Academic Group (TAG) have been announced as the winner of the Best Business School Partnership award during the AMBA & BGA Excellence Awards 2021.

This award, which was presented virtually on 29th January 2021, recognises the development of an excellent partnership between LUMS and TAG to deliver the Executive MBA at Lancaster University Ghana. The Best Business School Partnership award recognises organisations that are passionate about building networks and have adopted a proactive, innovative approach to strategic collaboration.

Lancaster University Ghana (LUG), is a partnership between Lancaster University (LU) and Transnational Academic Group Ghana (TAG Ghana). LUG provides a world class degree in Ghana delivered by exceptional academic staff, with outstanding student support, several scholarships, and a family friendly experience. It is also the only UK university branch campus delivering a British degree in sub-Saharan Africa.  LUG has a distinctive approach to education focused on developing a creative approach to problem solving, an ethic of service, and the ability to meet the very considerable career challenges that lie ahead of them. LUG currently delivers a Foundation programme, undergraduate programmes and the 2 year part-time Executive MBA.

The Lancaster EMBA is designed to build students’ functional knowledge and leadership capabilities through a combination of taught modules in key management areas interspersed with experiential projects where students apply that knowledge to specific business issues. The modules are delivered by the same faculty from the UK campus, in a convenient weekend format with classes from Friday to Sunday every 6-8 weeks. This allows students to obtain a world-class EMBA without having to leave their jobs, and at a fraction of the cost of travelling to the UK to study. To date, LUG has graduated four EMBA cohorts, with a diverse mix of graduates from different countries, industries and backgrounds.

Speaking on behalf of Lancaster University, Associate Professor Cynthia Forson, Deputy Provost and lead on the EMBA in Ghana, said: “This is a recognition of the extraordinary partnership between LUMS and TAG Ghana that enables the LUMS EMBA to have an impact well beyond the programme itself – in terms of benefits at student, staff and organisational levels.”

Dr Franco Gandolfi, Chief Executive Officer of Transnational Academic Group Ghana said ‘This is a tremendous recognition by one the most esteemed accreditation bodies in the world. This award is a true testimony of the wonderful partnership between two high profile organizations seeking excellence in all their endeavors.’

Professor Malcolm McIver, Provost of Lancaster University Ghana said, ‘This is a wonderful achievement, and the staff of Lancaster and Lancaster University Ghana are to be congratulated. AMBA is the Gold standard, and this award not only recognises the hard work of all those involved but also LUG/TAG’s commitment to bringing high quality education and industry relevant learning to West Africa. We are immensely proud of what we have achieved so far and this award will add to our determination to further develop innovative learning experiences and exciting new collaborations.’

The AMBA and BGA awards aim to bring the global business education community together to celebrate excellence and recognise achievement amongst business schools, students and graduates. This year, 60 finalists across 11 categories were shortlisted.
