Our Careers Department offers our students one-to-one support, and also assists them with preparation for work placements and internships.This includes workshops, CV, interview skills training and mock interviews.During the course of the summer break, the team follows up on students who are working in various organisations for feedback from the interns, and their employers.

“I perform daily administrative tasks which include filing of documents, calling customers/telemarketing, writing proposals, sending company profiles to potential clients, making calls on behalf of my boss and handling petty cash for the company. Doing this internship at Finnex Energy has helped me learn a lot from the startup point of view, since I have been able to apply a lot of the principles in my Economics class to the operations of the company.” – Manuella, Economics & International Relations, ’21

“During my internship at Touton S.A, I was able to apply a lot of knowledge from my modules in research. “I was privileged to intern at PwC, since it had been my dream internship site since first year. I have had the opportunity to conduct interviews with important government officials, and was put in charge of writing reports and developing proposals. Due to this experience, I have developed great communication skills, networking skills, research skills, and team collaboration. “At this year’s Careers Fair, I signed up at the KPMG stand and days later I got an email to apply for the internship opportunity and an aptitude test. After passing that and the interview, I was thrilled when I found out I had been selected! I worked on the receivership project at KPMG. Together with my supervisor and team, I helped to manage the portfolios of the banks, and performed administrative tasks including scheduling meetings with clients on behalf of my supervisor. I was more than happy with the team I was assigned to – everyone was very intelligent and friendly, always willing to teach me anything I wanted to learn. “This is basically my dream internship. I got to know about CQ-Legal through the Law Conversation Evening programme organized on campus by the Careers Department – where we engage with professional legal practitioners and learn from them. I was so inspired my Cynthia Quarcoo who is the Founder and Managing Partner at CQ Legal after the program as she elaborated about her career life experience, what she does at CQ Legal, her UK schooling experience and when she was still being called to the Bar. At CQ-Legal I have been able to acquire skills in research related to legal work around employment and contracts. “This opportunity to work at Diaspora African Forum (DAF) was presented to me by the Careers department at Lancaster University Ghana. The Careers team also supported me throughout the process of ensuring my CV was professional and that I was ready to intern. I perform administrative and research work on a daily basis which includes most times researching on areas related to specific projects that DAF embarks on; I also make calls on behalf of DAF for the projects. My advice to students is to not be afraid of taking the world on, students should take part in various activities on and off campus. They should always strive to be the hardest workers in the room and anywhere they find themselves.
